Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:

Ana: Ana Aguilar Jewelry

Hi, Im Ana Aguilar a multidisciplinary artist and mother of boys. I started working with metal 12 years ago and now run my own studio where I create one of a kind pieces using raw materials and eco friendly studio practices.

Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?

It was inspired by a professor I had who encouraged us, as artists to use our own names to really showcase our intentions to create authentic one of a kind pieces.

What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?

My signature item would have to be my brass Horizon Hoops, they are a show favorite. People love how light weight these hoop earrings are and how easily they match with silver and gold jewelry.

What makes your business unique to the industry?

I create everything myself without outsourcing! I hand fabricate with metal or hand carve designs in wax and cast in studio while most jewelry companies outsource some or all of the process. I love creating, and this is what makes each piece unique.

What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?

Honestly I did not know how to reach my audience as a new jewelry business, so I took leaps of faith and keep signing up for local handmade shows. It’s taken a lot of time and effort but I’ve built a small community of clients and other makers that inspire me and keep me going. Community is so important, now more then ever!

How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?

Without shows I’ve been working behind the scenes on my website and trying to connect with my clients personally. Covid has affected so many of us in different ways, checking in with my clients and fellow makers and showing them support via social media has been very important.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

Currently, without craft shows, I LOVE wrapping up and packaging orders! I like to envision my customer receiving their package as a gift and I always want them to feel excitement.

What is your *must do* local activity?

Spending time at the beach with my two young boys. No matter how long we stay, they never seem to want to leave! Beach days are always a source of fun and inspiration.
