I worked as a professional drummer for many years, performing all over the world and recording. I even played on a nationally syndicated TV show. I ended up living in the south of France for a while, where I became really inspired by design, art, pastries, and ice cream.
After experimenting in all these areas, I realized my obsession with handbags could embody a lot of my interests. I decided to design a bag that had a structured, European look, but with a twist. By using colorful, smooth, glitter vinyl fabric, I made my bags look like desserts. The glitter vinyl fabric also reminds me of my favorite sparkle drum sets. I really like that this material is durable and vegan.

Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?

Ange was my nickname growing up. All my friends called me Ange. My married name is Libman. My friend, Lyn calls me Libby. She suggested to name my company Ange Libby. Thanks Lyn!

What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?

I think my signature style is very detailed and structured design, in very colorful, sparkly materials.

What makes your business unique to the industry?

I've never seen another bag or wallet like an Ange Libby. Usually, people use glitter vinyl for retro handbags in the style of the 1950's. Ange Libby bags are contemporary designs. These bags are really structured and detailed. I actually have a patent on my bag design.

What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?

For me, trying to keep up with social media has been a challenge. I didn't grow up in the computer age, so I'm always trying to learn more to keep up. I just really try to be part of the now.

How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?

It's been really challenging. My biggest clients were museum stores, and most museums have been closed for the past 9 months. Some are starting to open again. I put my bags on Amazon, used the time to create my new wallets, and I'm hoping things will return to normal soon. Meanwhile, I'm intrigued with this concept of virtual artistic marketplaces.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

I really love putting colors and fabrics together. I spend a lot of time deciding on glitter vinyl color combinations, and what fabrics will go with them for the interior of the bags and wallets.

What is your *must do* local activity?

I'm still obsessed with pastries. I LOVE Portos Bakery. I miss the days of going inside, just to look at the pastry display. It looks like art to me. I definitely get inspiration from desserts.
