Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:

Rx Los Angeles is a Los Angeles based home and body fragrance company.  We are a small business owned and operated by sisters Jennifer and Jocelyn Chun.

Our products:

Our fragrances are all developed and blended in house.  We then use our fragrances in all of our products.  Our whole collection is vegan, cruelty-free, and phthalate-free, and all of our candles are made with 100% non GMO soy wax.  In addition, all of our product ingredients are made in the USA.

Our collection of fragrances are fragrant yet not overwhelming so they suit a variety of fragrance lovers.  Jocelyn does all of our graphic designs so our packaging follows a minimalistic look as to work for all home and business decor aesthetically.

Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?

Rx is a play on the latin word meaning recipe.  We believe in providing beautiful clean fragrances that everyone will love with sustainability in mind.  We've been lucky to grow organically in our community having started through a Kickstarter campaign and pop ups around Los Angeles.

What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?

Our signature product is our 100% soy wax candle. We started our company with making just candles as gifts so we only had candles for a long time. When customers loved our fragrances so much, they began to request other products as well.

What makes your business unique to the industry?

As you probably know, there are a lot of candle companies. What sets us a part is our aesthetic and simple yet complex fragrances.  Our style of the look of our products and fragrances is for them to be modern and suit any palette.  The design matches almost all decor and our fragrances are very neutral where most people like the entire line.

What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?

Being a small business is hard in that we do everything ourselves!  From making the products in our small warehouse, to packaging them and photographing, running our customer service and website, we do everything from start to finish. It doesn't leave much time to try and grow, or focus on Instagram or other advertising efforts. We've been lucky in that our customers help us advertise with word of mouth! We grow slowly each year, with keeping our current customers and gaining new ones through them.

How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?

Luckily we have made hand sanitizers for a few years. When the pandemic hit, we went into full hand sanitizer manufacturing, and focused fully on that for a few weeks. It became clear right away, though, that our suppliers were getting hit hard to.  Our prices for bottles and alcohol skyrocketed. We've also been able to make it through, because a lot of people who would visit us at our pop ups, started buying online.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

It is all so fulfilling! Making our products by hand ourselves, then getting to sell them and see how happy they make people is the best.

What is your *must do* local activity?

Hiking!  I love picking up some food from a local restaurant and having a picnic on a hike.  I use Yelp to find the hikes in my area.
