Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:

Balefire Goods is an award-winning gallery that showcases unique jewelry, art, and home goods. We highlight custom jewelry made in-house, jewelry created by artists from across the globe, and we offer jewelry repair services. An ever changing collection of local wall art and other artisan made goods, alongside metalsmithing and art classes, round out our offerings.

Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?

Balefires were historically used as beacons or signal fires that communicated visually across large distances and cultures. We believe the jewelry and art we carry is similar in that it communicates shared ideas and aesthetics across all types of people.

What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?

While we carry and create jewelry and art in a diversity of styles, pieces that are thoughtfully handcrafted and are made to last is what we are know for.

What makes your business unique to the industry?

We pride ourselves on focusing on unique, sustainably sourced, artisan made pieces. Much of the work we make in house and that is created by the artists we work with are on-of-a-kind pieces. Education is also core to our approach and we are happy to work with our customers to help them learn about the techniques and materials used in the work we carry.

What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?

Communicating the value, or and difference with, artisan made goods as compared to mass produced jewelry and art is both a challenge and an opportunity. Many of our best customers are those that have taken classes or spent time with us learning about the materials and techniques used in our gallery. It is great to see people understand the work and vision that goes into a piece and how much that can help them connect to the art we carry.

How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid- 19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?

Covid-19 saw us closing the gallery and moving everything online. We already had a robust website and did a lot of online orders before this hit, so that benefitted us for sure. However, taking a lot more of our appointments for custom made jewelry online was an adjustment as we can only see/measure/etc so much over video. We have it pretty well figured out now but there was a definite learning curve at first.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

Jewelry is often a purchase made to honor important occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. and it is an honor to be a part of selecting or making these important pieces that carry so much meaning.

What is your *must do* local activity?

One of our favorite local nights out is to hit up our neighbors at the Arvada Tavern on Tuesdays when the whole place becomes a tiki themed experience.
