Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:

Angie: Muddy Mouth Cards

We are funny and inappropriate greeting cards handmade by a team of 5 moms who work from home in the Twin Cities. We have been sharing laughs with our customers for 7 years and have more recently added T-shirts, tote bags, magnets and more gift items.

Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?

When I launched this line of cards, they weren’t as...aggressive as they are now. They had some snarky attitude but they weren’t dirty, kind of watered down dirt, or MUD! Once I knew I wanted mud included, the rest just came to me.

What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?

Our top sellers change each month because cards are so seasonal but we have a couple cards that have been top sellers since year 1: “Isn’t it weird to think we’re celebrating the day you came out of a vagina? Happy Birthday!”

What makes your business unique to the industry?

We’re handmade. Plus we’re small so we can produce timely content before the big boxes can (ie: Covid, Tiger King...) and our team all gets to work from home in our jammies or drinking wine so it’s a fairly stress-free job (no, we’re not hiring!).

What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?

Profanity! People may be hesitant to include us at an event or bring us into their retail store so we’ve come up with a new section called Clean Mud to help add some sass without the profanity for those that prefer those.

How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?

Greeting cards have been a popular item while people have been craving more human contact during quarantine, so that has helped push us to create new content that includes  Miss You, Encouragement and Mental Health.

What is your favorite part of what you do?

Working a live event or visiting a store and hearing people read our cards aloud to each other. That sound of people discovering us is the BEST.

What is your *must do* local activity?

We love to pop-up and sell at local events such as the State Fair, Farmer’s Markets and wineries! The Chankaska Creek Winery hosts an event called Toast to Women and we can’t wait to attend again this year (masks and all!).
